Online Health Science Prerequisites
For more than 50 years, The Frances M. Maguire School of Nursing and Health Professions at Gwynedd Mercy University has been a leader and innovator in nursing and healthcare education. We are dedicated to helping students like you pursue their professional and personal goals while driving improvement in health care delivery and patient outcomes through compassionate, evidence-based nursing.
Make the Transition to a Health Career
If you’re looking to make a change into a nursing career, you may find yourself faced with the need to make up undergraduate-level science courses. In fact, 90% of our ABSN graduates completed at least one prerequisite course at GMercyU. Taking these courses outside of a degree program can be difficult to manage if you work full-time, thanks to the required laboratory components. However, thanks to Gwynedd Mercy University School of Graduate and Professional Studies’ Virtual Labs, you can now take many of the important foundational courses you need entirely online.
Our instructor-led prerequisite courses include a virtual lab component designed to help you develop the skills and knowledge you need in the sciences. Thanks to new interactive technology, you can make concrete connections between science theory and clinical applicability. Best of all, you can pursue these courses on a more flexible and convenient schedule that fits with your work and family responsibilities.
Online Health Science Courses
All of our courses cost $350 per credit hour and are led by instructors who will emphasize the health-related aspects of each topic. Unless noted, each class lasts eight weeks.
- Nutrition (6-week course)
- Developmental Psychology (5-week course)
- Statistics (5-week course)
- Microbiology (8-week course)

Virtual Labs are part of the online learning experience at Gwynedd Mercy University School of Graduate and Professional Studies. The consistent goal at Gwynedd Mercy University is to help students relate the science they learn to what happens in their lives making science more personal and more real. With the ability for students to engage in exceptional scientific laboratory experiences in a distance learning environment through our virtual labs, students have the ability to learn and apply science almost anywhere.
