Prepare to help people of all ages overcome challenges in their lives as a professional counselor. GMercyU offers a Master of Science in Counseling (MSC) program and a post-master’s certification option that blends online coursework with in-person residency and field experiences.

From day one of your counseling program, you’ll have a dedicated faculty mentor who is your personal and professional resource. In addition to in-person field experience, our counseling programs include one weekend residency at our campus.

As a graduate of any GMercyU counseling program, you’ll be equipped to sit for the National Counselor Exam (NCE) in Pennsylvania, leading to Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) licensure.* You can choose from program tracks in clinical mental health counseling or school counseling. Accreditation, Affiliation,
and Licensure

To become eligible for Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) status, you must successfully complete 60 semester hours of graduate coursework that meets the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Program (CACREP) curriculum requirements.

The Master of Science in Counseling and Post-Master’s School Counseling Certification programs at GMercyU align with CACREP requirements.

Our counseling program is also affiliated with the National Board of Certified Counselors. This affiliation allows students to sit for the National Counselor Exam within six-months of graduation (before or after). Exam prep activities, including practice exams and workshops, are available to counseling students.

Our school counseling programs are designed to meet the licensure requirements of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. If you reside in a different state, you should carefully review your home state’s licensure requirements prior to enrolling.
