Our counseling graduates have excellent passing rates on the Praxis. In 2021-22, 100% of GMercyU school counseling students who took the Praxis II Professional School Counselor exam passed on the first attempt.

School Counseling Certification

For graduates of a master’s degree in counseling, education, or another related field. This 48-credit program equips you to support K-12 students with personal challenges, academic issues, and planning for the future. Graduates will be eligible to pursue certification as school counselors in Pennsylvania.*

Admissions Cycle

The post-master’s school counseling certification program enrolls new students twice a year, each spring and fall.

Admissions Requirements

Applicants for admission to the Post-Master’s School Counseling Certification program must meet the following requirements:

  • Applicants must have a master’s degree in counseling, education, or another related field.
  • Submission of official transcripts from all academic institutions attended
  • Earned a minimum grade point average (GPA) of a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Completion of the Gwynedd Mercy University Graduate Application
  • Submission of two letters of recommendation
  • A personal statement
  • A current resume
Tuition and Fees

Estimated 2024-2025 costs: $750 per credit hour

  • School Counseling Certification ($36,000 for the complete 48-credit program)

The First Step Toward Your License

Our school counseling certification program helps you take your first step on your certification journey. Our program is designed to meet the licensure requirements of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. If you reside in another state, you should carefully review your home state’s licensure requirements prior to enrolling in one of our counseling programs.
