Goals of the MBA – Strategic Management and Leadership

The MBA with a specialization in Strategic Management and Leadership is a rigorous, 30-credit graduate degree program in business. It teaches foundational business skills in the MBA core, plus specialized knowledge in the effective management of global organizations and human capital management. Graduates of the program should be strategic thinkers with a well-developed sense of social responsibility and ethics.

Program Structure and Course Topics

The program consists of seven core MBA courses and three specialization courses. Course topics in the MBA core include:
Ethical Decision Making and Corporate Social Responsibility

  • Strategic Management
  • Accounting for Decision Makers
  • Marketing Planning
  • Managing Business Operations
  • Managerial Finance

These courses develop strategic thinking and decision-making capabilities through application of technical knowledge to real-world business problems. Concentration courses include:

At the end of the program, students complete a capstone business plan that allows them to demonstrate knowledge across the curriculum.

Who Can Apply

This MBA degree program requires no GRE or GMAT testing, but it does require applicants to be graduates of a bachelor’s degree program from a accredited college or university. Applicants must have earned a 3.0 GPA to apply.

Students whose bachelor’s degree did not include significant business coursework may take six one-credit foundation courses that teach critical knowledge in areas such as accounting, marketing, and statistics. The foundation courses provide knowledge that is necessary for success in graduate-level MBA courses.

Applicants who fall just below the minimum GPA requirement (2.7-2.9 GPA) may request a review of their application by the program director. However, acceptance of an application for review does not guarantee admission into the program.
