Master of Science Degree (MSN) – Nurse Practitioner Program

The Nurse Practitioner program prepares registered nurses to become advanced practice nurses in a primary care setting, teaching students how to perform physical exams, diagnose and treat common acute illnesses and injuries, order and interpret lab services and X-rays, and prescribe pharmacologic therapy and nonpharmacologic interventions. Enrollees can choose to pursue the pediatric or adult gerontology track.

Course work for this degree is designed to prepare you to be either an Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner or a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. The Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner prepares advanced practice nurses as primary care providers to manage the health of individuals from adolescence through their senior years. The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner prepares advanced practice nurses as primary care providers to manage the health of individuals from newborn through age twenty-one. Core course topics in this traditional master’s degree program include:

Graduates of this program are eligible to take the adult or pediatric national board certification exam to become certified NPs.
